Review of Coffee and Cigarettes (2004) by Kristiana G — 03 Mar 2008
While Jarmusch's Coffee and Cigarettes does have an interesting premise, a laborious history and a cast of well-known and charming performers ranging from Bill Murray to Tom Waits I found the film somewhat disappointing.
Perhaps I was wrong to assume that conversations would extend to other topics besides ones regarding the consumption of coffee and cigarettes. Jarmusch shows skill when directing awkward and moderately funny vignettes between very unlikely pairs but I can't help but think that the likes of Quentin Tarantino or Kevin Smith and they're impressive talents for writing dialogue would have been far more complimentary to the film's concept.
