Review of Coffee and Cigarettes (2004) by Ashley C — 08 Nov 2009
About like I remember: as much of a mixed bag as you'd expect of a collection of shorts shot over the course of seventeen years, although the gems really are gems. I do wish the thematic crossovers between vignettes didn't seem so forced.
Personal fave: Alfred Molina living the dork's revenge fantasy against Steve Coogan, with runners-up Tom & Iggy, the passive-aggressive alt-rock icons; Cate & Cate, the socialite and the black sheep; and Alex & Isaach, just because I could watch Isaach De Bankole read the phone book and be happy.
I'll go on record against popular consensus and say that GZA/RZA/Bill Murray, while funny, tries just a little too hard.
