Review of Coffee and Cigarettes (1987) by Nate W — 24 Apr 2008
So it's a movie that is entirely a few people's conversations over coffee and cigarettes. At the beginning, you are pretty excited that it's gonna get really good. The middle feels like a big let down, and you just think how great the movie COULD BE.
... but isn't. Then, at the end, it is glorious, and you can see each scene gave you just a snipit of particular archetypes of people. If you like to people watch, this is a movie for you. My favorite is the last scene, which is a couple old guys on a break.
.. I feel like the whole movie leads up to that scene, and you are forced to empathize with the characters. Its great.
