Review of Code Name: The Cleaner (2007) by Richard R — 13 Jul 2009
Steadfastly juvenile comedy in which a loveable everyday hotel janitor, played with suitable appeal by stand-up legend Cedric the Entertainer who, following a blow to the head, believes he is a spy on a special mission.
Trouble is the agencies (FBI and CIA) are lulled into thinking that he holds the key to solving a case, as do the criminals after the hidden loot. An unsuccessful cross between Bourne Identity (2002) and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1993) which would have required the physical action of the former and the physical comedy of the latter in order to be effective.
Featuring the ever-watchable Lucy Liu and desperate housewife Nicolette Sheridan, Codename is an average effort which will probably appeal to children of all ages.
