Review of Cocoon (1995) by Jenny N — 17 Oct 2011
A light and fun sci-fi with a veteran cast of talented entertainers. and Steve Guttenberg. enjoyable as this movie is, there are a few unshakable eyebrow-raisers for me. I know the pool is supposed to make old people feel young again, but I could have gone the rest of my life without the image of Wilford Brimley getting into a shower to ask Maureen Stapleton if she "wanted a piece of candy.
" no matter the context, horny old men are infinitely more awkward than funny. also, as much as I like the "living forever" motif, I can't help feeling a bit off about the way this movie dealt with it--mostly the idea of a couple choosing their own longevity over their daughter and grandson.
but hey, that's me.
