Review of Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky (2009) by Melissa H — 11 Jul 2010
This was a fascinating film about two very powerful and successful legends who participated in a completely selfish and lustful affair at the time of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" and Coco's creation of her ever so famous perfume.
As expected & as it should be in this particular film, the costumes and music were above par. I loved the variety in the score, so much of it reflected Igors "Rite of Spring" of course but then there was the softness of the French composers and stereotypical triumphant, strong force of many Russian composers at that time.
It was so haunting and mysterious. There were some beautiful moments in this, and some steamy lustful scenes that makes one feel sad and guilty because of its selfish nature and the sorrowful pain that his knowing wife is going through.
You see Coco & Igor in a whole entire new light in this film, they will never quite seem the same. The one word I am left with after seeing this though is simply, fascinating.
