Review of Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky (2009) by Major N — 14 Apr 2011
Don't think the film made an accurate depiction of the character mr Stravinsky. he was kind of portrayed as this lonely expressionist radical with a chain around his dick and i'm sure stravinsky would've opposed to that portrayal; he was definitely not anywhere NEAR an expressionist.
he was musically into something similar to what picasso was doing in the visual arts. i've also read several of his interviews and went thru a few biographies and one crucial point seems to be missing here: he was FUNNY.
so who's this guy in this movie saying 1 word every ten minutes when he's not too busy banging away on his piano with a single tear running down his cheek or staring stoichally into the distance or pumping up his viking muscles? like what? there were some historical inaccurasies as well probably added as a plot device, but then I have to ask: where's the plot? the whole movie seemed kind of aimless and after the whole thing ended I kinda felt like "well, why was this thing made in the first place?" still, I suppose it was "well made" cinematically and the acting was good and of course the music.
