Review of Coco Before Chanel (2009) by Evan P — 05 Dec 2009
Good biopic. Definitely tells an interesting story and I feel like I know a lot more about who Coco Chanel was and how she came to be. With that said, the movie is very low-key. There aren't a lot of real ups and downs or twist and turns. Not a ton of major emotion in the movie either. I kept expecting some major "ah-a" movement where all of a sudden "Coco Chanel" is born and the world is changed. Instead, it is much slower, gradual working toward a conclusion.
Probably the most interesting thing in the movie is the end where you see just how much Coco Chanel changed the definition of fashion.
It was interesting and kept my attention (and that's saying something for a movie with subtitles), but didn't strike me as stellar in any way.
