Review of Coco Before Chanel (2009) by Phillippa B — 13 Feb 2010
While it doesn't cover the entirety of Chanel's life (including her period with the Nazis) it does a good job with its specific project - to explore the constituent events and relationships that came to constitute her personal ethic. To viewers disturbed about its lack of coverage of the "Chanel period", do realize the title of this film:
"Coco 'AVANT' Chanel" or "Coco 'BEFORE' Chanel"!
Audrey Tautou gives an amazing performance. That alone can be a critical plus for this film.
