Review of Coco Before Chanel (2009) by Valerie P — 20 Apr 2010

I was curious about Chanel's life and had wondered what it was that made her "tick" as a designer. Even though it starred Audrey Tautou, whom I really respect as an actress, the movie fell really flat for me.

It seemed to drag across the less interesting parts of her life, then zip through the scenes that I would have found more interesting. It hardly spent any time on her life as a designer, but instead whiled away the time with endless high-society parties and social conformities.

I feel badly for Chanel's losses, but feel I understand her even less as a person now than I did before the film.
