Review of Coco Before Chanel (2009) by Melissa P — 13 May 2010

Good movie with decent performances, but it still lacked more insight into how this woman was inspired to become a fashion powerhouse.

Did clothes and style fascinate her as a child? Who taught her how to sew? We can only assume she did it to make money. She preferred a more masculine, stream-line look that was very against the time, but what drove that rebellion? Sheer comfort or wanting as a woman, to be more than a silk and feather-draped piece of eye candy for men?

Yeah, there was love and loss in her life, but this is more like a by-the-book biopic that didn't provide anything deep. Hopefully Coco apres Chanel will be far more interesting.
