The heartwarming story of an embittered, unsmiling, sourfaced quasi orphan who slept with wealthy men to escape poverty and eventually to make millions by reforming women's fashion. It is somewhat irksome and touchingly sad that a movie that clearly values beauty and photographs it so well is centered on an actress who is losing her looks rapidly.
All that being said, Alessandro Nivola can do no wrong. He is always the best thing about tense, unfunny movies.
