Review of Coco Before Chanel (2009) by Amanda C — 25 Dec 2011
Wonderfully shot with some great clothes, but the real joy of Coco Before Chanel lies in the performances. Audrey Tautou is completely charming and captivating, with an intelligent gaze that carries more meaning than the script. She is complemented by the other around her, particularly Alessandro Nivola, who speaks surprisingly good french, complements Tautou with a softer tone, although with just as much charm.
Beautifully constructed, the film is itself designed to be easy and comfortable, like Chanel's fashions. It is not revolutionary, however, but rather familiar and comfortable, surrounding a fascinating character.
