Review of Coco Before Chanel (2009) by Alex S — 19 Mar 2010
I had high expectations for this film, considering the subject and the caliber of the actors, but it was, surprisingly, a disappointment. Although the cinematography was beautiful, the plot was very slow, with most of the stagnant action occuring in one place.
There was so little development of Coco's character, that this dipiction seems to be lacking on showing what she was really like. For nearly the entire film, she lolls about looking extremely morose, aside from these ramdom bursts of creativity that crop up out of nowhere; her inspirations are non-existant.
The movie ends without any feeling of accomplishment, with so many parts of her life missing from the story. Thus, this is not a true biopic of Chanel, and it's alright if you skip this one.
