Review of Coco Before Chanel (2009) by Gulsah C — 03 Oct 2010
For some reason this made it to my recommended netflix queue, but I decided to give it a view this weekend. While I'm no fashion expert by any stretch, I of course know the name Chanel.
Having never read up on this movie, I went into it completely blind. This movie takes you to the beginnings of Chanel's life and follows her from her humble beginnings as an orphan and takes you through different periods in life.
Normally I can't stand subtitles, but for some strange reason it didn't bother me one bit in this movie. Audrey Tautou delivers a simply amazing performance and the supporting cast is great as well. Cinematography and wardrobe were also excellent.
While clearly not factual or historically accurate the movie is entertaining, and gives you a glimpse of Chanel's beginnings and her eventual rise to the fashion elite.
