Review of Coco (2017) by Nick C — 22 Dec 2017
Coco fulfills the Disney lover's needs, however, falls short of competing with the classics. The visual intricacy matched with the skeletal theme provides an interesting viewing exsperince yet lacks in memorable or impactful musical numbers which has religiously been Disney's bread and butter.
The story and morals of the film are clear and easily enjoyed by the whole family while also diving into a culture rich theme, but ultimately this Disney film fills the roster more then the memory book.
*** I'm a pretty big Disney fan, but this was the first Disney movie I noticed myself drifting off to. Outside of it's theme Coco just seemed to lack the heartwarming magic of so many beloved classics and characters.
Disney has always featured young defiant protagonists, but Miguel seemed uninteresting and forgettable.
