Review of Coco (2017) by Rut R — 24 May 2018
Coco Movie Review.
Adapted by Lee Unkrich, Coco is a story about a boy who dreams of becoming a musician, even against his family's believe of music being a curse. It take place in Mexico during the Day of the Dead replete of people, music, and festivals Miguel decides to face his family in order to achieve his dream. The land of the dead is the main stage of the story where Miguel is dragged Into because of his insistence to become a musician.
On the other hand, when we talk about ''Coco'' (Movie release this past November) I can only think about the animated movie '' The book of life''. We can easily relate those movies with the infinity of similes they share, for example, the family's job, the protagonist who refuses to follow the ideas of his family, the rejection of music, and the land of the dead. The firm Coco, in some way got some of its ideas from there. However, we can not discredit the incredible result that the firm Coco ended up having.
In other words, It's not perfect, one major plot twist feels borrowed from The Book of Life. But on the whole, Coco is an extraordinary caricature full of colorful characters and alebrijes that would captivate the audience. If you have not watched the firm I recommend it to you.
