Review of Coco (2017) by Andrew H — 03 Jan 2018
Is this a remake of Book of Life? It looks and sounds the same, and have the same theme of Mexican legends and a trip to the land of the dead. Its not really a remake, as the basic story is different, but it definitely is a sister movie that build on the success of the previous movie.
Its also made by a different studio, but its still relies heavily on the same pallet. What it does better is to anchor it more firmly into Mexican culture and traditions by focusing on the value of family.
It highlights and utilizes the good side of Americans duality relationship towards Mexico. It is also an excellent family movie, as it really is a movie about family made for every member of the family.
Best seen with your children and spouse in a theater near you as soon as possible.
