Review of Coco (2017) by Eliza H — 05 Oct 2018
Just to say on the most part, this was worth it for me.
Best: The animation is just breathtaking for me. The vivid colors (especially in the Land Of the Dead) just seemed to bring everything to life. And the take on Hispanic culture was pretty refreshing, even though it really reminded me of "The Book Of Life". The plot was very something so intriguing for me, especially the ban on music in Miguel's family. And I though the "life after death" idea was just reinforcing me to not be afraid of death when the time comes.
Bad: Hmmm...not sure what to say, except (spoilers!) maybe the take on Ernesto de la Cruz turning on Miguel after accepting him as his own family. It strongly reminded me never to have idols (Like Up, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2, etc.), and it kind of unsettled me.
WTF?: This might sound biased, but how did everyone believe that Ernesto threw Miguel off the roof of the Sunrise Spectacular and everyone somehow believed it? With the world we live in, there's always going to be that group of people who just don't see blind truth, even with evidence. And how the living world find a way to prove that Hector was the real musician just only based on Coco's letters?
Overall: Watch when you can. You (probably) won't regret it.
