Review of Coco (2017) by Adrian L — 22 May 2018
Lee Unkrich directed a great cultural movie , representing family and music being a key component of life no matter the situation.
Music can always bring a broken family back together. The film depicts Miguel a young boy wanting to pursue in his idols footsteps Ernesto De La Cruz and be the best musician in Mexico . There's a problem, Miguel's family forbids anyone from wanting to be a musician, to even talk about being one is frowned upon. Knowing it was against his families word Miguel still tried and pursued to be a musician secretly. Little did Miguel know his great great grandfather was the best musical song writer. Having many obstacles to go through to find out who his grandfather was Miguel had to go to the land of the dead and find him. Wondering who his grandfather was Miguel met a man named Hector on the streets . Little did he know later down the line they get In some trouble and finds out hector was his great great grandfather who was unfortunately murdered by his idol Ernesto who later went on to be a musical legend but after Miguel finds out this discovery he makes sure to go back to the land of the living and deface Ernesto and give hector all the credit for the famous songs Ernesto had stole .
Unkrich had a great developing movie with great characters showing anything is possible if you really want it . Miguel's family gets back together and gets his great great grandparents blessing. Later on Miguel finds a picture of hector so that he wouldn't be forgotten that mama coco Miguel's grandmother had in her drawer .
