Review of Cockneys vs Zombies (2012) by David B — 08 Feb 2013
Much more than just a witty title, this is a very genuine, very British send-up. It is certainly a funny film if not original zombie comedy but you ignore all that. There are loads of memorable moments, like Richard Brias (Who's good) being chased by a zombie, while using a zimmer frame and another scene involving West Ham and Millwall fans as zombies.
There are some great gory moments but it's more funny than disgusting. The simple plot: Two cockney siblings lead the residents of a quiet retirement community in a bloody war against the walking dead in this horror comedy from director Matthias Hoene.
Andy (Harry Treadaway) and Terry (Rasmus Hardiker) were in the midst of robbing a bank to save the rest home where their grandfather lives when the zombie apocalypse struck East London. After arriving at the nursing home heavily armed and with cash in tow, the two brothers prepare to fight their way out with the assistance of some trigger-happy seniors.
Alan Ford is brilliant, if somewhat like Brick-top (From Snatch) and the cast are second fiddle but still watchable, the script is brilliant, sending up the ordinarily Londoner and brilliant slang terms.
Not as good as Shaun Of The Dead but still a great and watchable. Tends to slow down in the middle though. Worth a look. "We know where to fuckin' shoot 'em!!" - Alan Ford.
