Review of Cobra (1986) by Matt R — 18 Oct 2008
Lots of recognizable actors in here from other cop movies, including two from the original Dirty Harry (Santoni and Robinson) and David Rasche (aka TV's "Sledge Hammer"). Even so, the combined star power of the lineup can't save this from becoming a mediocre '80s action flick.
True to form, it had multiple '50s throwback references (including Stallone kicking the juke box to get it to work a la The Fonz), wild 80s fashion sported by Brigitte Nielsen, and enough corny action stunts to make the movie more funny than frightening by the time the "showdown" comes to town.
The beginning starts out suspenseful and has good pacing, but it just can't sustain the mood once the car chases and gunfights start happening.
