People complaining that Clue fails to be scary or suspenseful clearly misses the whole point of the movie. It's a comedy, a farce, about a mystery killer. It's the whodunnit tale played for laughs, and I think it works incredibly well.

I was also familiar with the play before this film version, so I had already known the characters and their personalities. I think this film version is solid and very fun to watch, but some characters do suffer from over acting such as the maid and cook.

But that's just a minor nuisance. I think the best way to judge if this movie was your cup of tea is how you reacted to the multiple endings of the movie. If you didn't like it, then you probably didn't like the rest of the movie in general.

If you did, then the movie was clearly made for you! And making the butler played by Tim Curry the major focus of the movie keeps it all together!
