Review of Clue (1985) by Renzo V — 17 Apr 2014

"SEVEN SUSPECTS, SIX WEAPONS, FIVE BODIES AND THREE ENDINGS".

- 'Clue' is a 1985 mystery comedy based on the popular board game and directed by Jonathan Lynn (Fighting Temptations, The Whole Nine Yards). Who doesn't know the game where you need to find out who the murder is, what weapon was used and where in the mansion it happened. I'm a very big fan of the game and love a good murder mystery. I must say the film has a great opening, but it loses it's credibility along the way. The chaos at the end was uncalled for. I do like the characters and the humor presented, and especially the option on the DVD to see the movie with one of the three alternate endings (or all three). Starring Tim Curry (IT, The Rocky Horror Picture), Eileen Brennan (Murder by Death, Jeepers Creepers), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future Trilogy, The Addams Family), Madeline Kahn (Young Frankenstein, The Muppet Movie) and Lesley Ann Warren (Victor Victoria, Mission Impossible tv-series). Can you figure out who done it?

1958, New England. Six strangers are invited to Hill House Manor to attend a dinner party. They are welcomed by Wadsworth the butler (Curry) who tells them not to tell their real name, but use their given alias. There's former psychiatrist professor Plum (Lloyd), war veteran Colonel Mustard, senator's wife Mrs. Peacock (Brennan), the homosexual Mr. Green, the illustrious Miss Scarlett (Warren) and alleged black widow Mrs. White (Kahn). After a drink offered by the French maid Yvette, the six are taken to the dining room. During dinner prepared by Mrs. Ho the cook, Mr. Boddy arrives. Everyone thinks he is the host, but the man reveals that he is the seventh guest. Wadsworth explains that each of the other six people is being blackmailed by Mr. Boddy and he wanted a confrontation. But Boddy had anticipated on this. If any of the guests talk to the police, their secret will be revealed to the whole world, that's why he brought six weapons: a knife, a rope, a candlestick, a gun, a wrench and a lead pipe. If one of the guests kills Wadsworth, all of their secrets will be safe.

The light goes out. The gun goes off. A woman screams. When the light is turned on again, the people inside the manor witness Mr. Boddy lying dead on the floor. Someone inside the house has killed him. And most likely it's one of them...
