Review of Club Dread (2004) by Jennifer O — 25 Apr 2010
Now when I saw the previews for Club Dread I wasn't all that impressed. There wasn't much about the film that really struck me as it was going to be really groundbreaking or all that funny. With that said, I also said the same thing about Super Troopers when I first saw the previews for that and I ended up loving that film. So I decided that I've give it a shot.
The Story-The Story was actually pretty good. There were some interesting things in it and I enjoyed it. And for the most part I was kept guessing as to who the killer might be. Allthough I had my thoughts about who it was. I ended up being wrong. :( hehe though thats ok.
The Cast-The Cast was good, but I felt that most of them delivered better in Super Troopers. They were good in C.D as well, but I just didn't feel the same punch was delivered. Bill Paxson was excellent and the others did there job well, but it just didn't nail me with the same vibe.
Overall-There were some good laughs, but they seemed a bit forced at times. Some of the stuff was a bit suttle though so I'm not sure if I got all of it the first time around. Its a film that I think I might need a view or two to tell if my initial reaction was on the money. The Horror aspect of it was allright, but it wasn't a scary film IMHO, but this is coming from a die hard horror nut so it may hit other people more with the scares. It was good, but again as I mentioned before I felt it lacked some of the Punch that made Super Troopers so hilarious to me. Still its a film that I recomend you check out and form your own opinion on. Because I think some people will get it and some wont, but for those of you who do. I think you'll really enjoy.
