Review of Cloverfield (2008) by Mike B — 10 Nov 2012
For what it's trying to do, I don't think this film could have accomplished its goal any more completely. The no name cast (aside from Michael Stahl-David from the Black Donnellys) offers an axtremely honest performance that usually isn't possible in monster/horror movies.
In my opinion, the camera work was perfect and only strengthened the film. This isn't supposed to be a nice, Hollywood puff piece. It's a raw and realistic examination of how people react in disaster situations.
See it, and see it in theatres. Also, stay through the credits.
