I would admit, the intensity is quite real and raw than most other horror movies, but I still feel distasteful with having to deal with the typical adolescent cast. From the camera whom always is the landmark for saying the most obvious things, to the openly stereotypical, blatantly misguided and careless partygoers, the cast in itself was just way too cliche for me to handle.

Also, what was particularly disturbing to me was that the cloverfield monster seemed to be trying to FIND THEM specifically for the purpose of, I don't even know. It's like they had some fucking cloverfield pheromone with their perfume.

Also, I don't have any idea how the monster came about in the first place, it just, HAPPENED. The cut-off from tapes also leaves me confused, trying to figure out why the anticipation of going to coney island would have ANYTHING to do to drive the plot forward or to even explain how or why this monster came across in the first place.

Although, I marvel the visuals and the trully realized aesthetic of a city gone under chaos: lpeople are directed by the military, people try anything they can to steal what they want in the heat of the moment, and also, how the military are trying to understand what they're dealing with.

But this is also put in brief when the gang find a containment field and GUESS WHAT: it gets attacked. apparently, the monster can spawn little shit minions who are naturally like zombies who can plague anyone they come physically in contact with.

But I don't quite mind that that much, but the whole cameraman/stalking that one girl he's got the hots for/ends up dying with no goodbye or no reason as to what happened in the first place, it's just the most off-putting thing for me was the stale, derivative characters and the other unnecessary parts of 'the recording' that apparently blanket layers over a plotline we could've guessed without it.

Overall, the aesthetic is appeasing if you can get over how typical the cast is, and the chaos is very relevant and real in this.
