Cloverfield makes the most out of it's $25 Million budget to produce an atmospheric found footage movie that is surprisingly high on visual effects. However, it lacks the emotional resonance of the other found footage films like Chronicle. Never the less, it is successful as a monster movie because it effectively captures the atmosphere with utter reality, some scares and a good load of violence.
