Review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) by Ryan V — 23 Mar 2012
Loosely derived from the beloved children's book of the same name, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs stars a young inventor (Bill Hader) who creates a device that will turn water into food. The machine, unfortunately, goes haywire and threatens to drown the world in assorted culinary products.
Ultimately, it's up to the inventor and the oddball inhabitants of his home town to stop the rampage of science gone wrong. I came into this movie with low expectations, but I found myself charmed by this movie's frequent slapstick, witty gags, and decent character construction.
Taken as a whole, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is head-and-shoulders above the usual CGI kiddie fare.
