Review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) by Alasdair B — 13 Mar 2015
This film brings you back to the times when animation was for one sole purpose: fun. Total and absolute sheer delight, much like the original disney movies. The animation is as brilliant as we have come to expect.
But what sets this film apart from most other animations is, well, pretty much everything. This film is ridiculously hilarious and all the characters of the film, especially Flint Lockwood, are superbly characterised.
The story is very original and the screenplay is excellent. The whole experience is just too colourfully handled by Miller and Lord you cant help but love it. The overarching food themes truly were magical and so utterly ridiculous they remind you of a tamer, more modern Tom and Jerry.
When you watch films like this, it becomes apparent that the genre has lost something: a sense of wonder, of pure imagination.
