Review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013) by Fedena P — 31 Mar 2014
Adorable to watch, although lacking the magic of the original.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller's absence from the project definitely leave the film feeling like their humour is being replicated, rather than carrying on from the first film.
I loved the original, it both had heart and was actually pretty hilarious. Unfortunately with the sequel the humour is no where near as strong, with many moments that fall flat.
The film works with it's hugely imaginative design. Part of the fun of the film is seeing all the different food puns come to life, and it is strangely enough quite satisfying for a long part of it's run-time. I also found myself caring for the 'foodimals', which I never thought I would say.
The film is really a mix of 'Jurassic Park', and every children's animal movie about saving wildlife.
I was never exactly bored, but it is not on the same level of the original which is a shame.
It made me want a dog which was a shame, but it didn't make me hungry, like the original. Which may be what was missing.
I wasn't hungry for more when it ended.
