Review of Clouds of Sils Maria (2014) by Prentice S — 18 Sep 2015
Excellent film- I missed this in theatres and saw it on Amazon. As usual JB is superb, both JB & KS gave great performances as did everyone. There is so much going on in this drama about multiple relationships, youth and maturity- between Valentine and Maria, as well as the characters in the play, as well as journeys of self exploration.
One thing which stuck out in my mind was how unhappy and lonely they all seemed a lot of the time, in spite of their supposed successes, affairs and clammering for the spotlight and so on and how the only thing that seemed to matter was either the media perception and or their own perception of their careers and the takes on the roles/characters/dramas etc.
I didn't see strength in CSM's character Joanna or in her version of Sigrid. She seemed to be a heartless, superficial, uncaring person who would step over anyone and anything to get to the top.
Maria & Valentine seemed to be the opposite in many ways.
