Review of Cloud Atlas (2012) by Ben R — 16 Dec 2013
There's no denying that Cloud Atlas has the qualities of a great film - it's got impeccable acting, stunning visual effects, a sweeping score, beautiful costume and set design, and a multitude of stories that could easily stand on their own as a movie.
However, the way they are woven together will certainly confuse viewers, and the script will certainly leave some viewers confused. Also, the plots, while certainly great, feel unbalanced, and there were certain ones I enjoyed vastly more than others - the futuristic ones, in particular, which boasted some of the best acting and effects in the film.
Despite my gripes, though, I guess it's safe to say the Wachowskis have crafted a sci-fi epic that is sure to be remembered for a long time to come - but whether it will be remembered as a flat out failure or a beautiful success is up to the viewer.
