Review of Cloud Atlas (2012) by Omar L — 22 Dec 2013
It takes a lot of guts and vision to be able to pull of a story that combines characters and settings in so many different time periods , and Tom Tykwer and the Wachowskis pull it off. Yes, the movie is quite long, and the overall story itself is a bit lacking, but the ambition and execution of this movie cannot be dismissed.
Here we have a movie where the actors in this ensemble cast not only play different characters within the same movie, but the characters they play are not limited to being the same race or gender. The underlying message of universality through the reaches of time is very well displayed in this movie.
I just wish that one of the major themes of the movie was a different one other than cannibalism.
