Review of Cloud Atlas (2012) by Terence G — 31 Dec 2013
Beautiful and engaging (did not feel like 3 hours), incredible make-up (the main 6 or so actors playing multiple roles in various genders and races), and I loved the unusual editing (jumping frequently yet easily between stories).
A very ambitious film, but perhaps spread itself a little thin - I couldn't quite connect with any characters or really feel for them. Some of the dialogue was too goofy (especially the "far future" time period, which was borderline JarJar).
In any case, I wish more film makers had the ambition to tell epic stories like this.
