Review of Cloud Atlas (2012) by Marcus B — 14 Feb 2014
I think the message of the film is cool, and I applaud the originality of the work, but I agree that the main theme did get a little burnt by the end. Sci-fi is a tough genre, I think this movie is best enjoyed if you accept the surrealism, and just go with it.
Some of the storylines felt a little "skinny," I think due to the actors all playing multiple characters; it would be impossible to flesh them all out even in 3 hours. Also several playing cross-gender roles; a symbolic choice I'd say.
Championed by Lana Wachowski if I had to guess. Alas, I digress. At times hokey, and idealistic, still an enjoyable watch.
