Review of Cloud Atlas (2012) by Matthew D — 24 Sep 2014
The most ambitious and beautiful movie ever created. The subtlety, nuance, and reach of the film is beyond me. The musicality and visual beauty in every scene is dealt with so much passion and care that it tugs at the heart strings.
I am glad that I've been alive to have watched this wonderful film. The truth about our lives and life as a whole is beautiful. I would give it 20 stars if I could. The reason people feel distant from understanding the movie is because they give up too easily.
This is not an action film with massive explosions (although it has that at time), but my point is that an audience needs to focus and really delve deep into this movie to understand it. Once you immerse yourself into the movie, that's when the emotional connectivity occurs and the magic happens.
Even if you don't understand it by the end (I felt that on my first screening), you'll still say to yourself that you have witnessed a masterpiece. I wish people were more receptive towards gems like this rather than a multi-million dollar action film with no decent story but massive explosions.
I highly recommend this movie to everyone.
