Review of Cloud Atlas (2012) by Cache H — 01 Nov 2014
Cloud Atlas is truly something special.
I mean, I seriously don't know how to properly explain this movie, and I mean that in a very good way. The story (if you wanna call it that) revolves around how our lives are permanently bound through the ages to those of others, meaning that we are constantly retracing our steps. It's definitely a thought provoking premise, and wow does it really explore the shit out of it. Without spoiling much, there are six intertwining stories told within the movie, each covering every sort of genre known to film. Each is uniquely interesting, and demonstrates some truly fantastic performances from the stellar cast. Given the scope of the movie, however, means that this movie is by no means simple to follow. You need to be giving 100% attention to each and every scene in order to even remotely understand where the plot is going. That's not a bad thing, but it definitely means that a second viewing should be mandatory if one wants to better grasp certain things.
To conclude, Cloud Atlas is an extremely interesting, and well done film. I can honestly say it's like nothing I've ever seen before.
