Although I greatly enjoyed the book several years ago, as soon as the film started I was unsure whether it was actually following the same plot. This is a mess of stories, confusing, connected in ways too obscure to follow.
Decent acting and excellent effects save the day...which is about how long it takes to watch. Plan a couple of toilet breaks.
