Review of Cloud Atlas (2012) by Jonny B — 21 Apr 2016
Credit the Wachowski's for their boldness at taking on such an ambitious narrative but at nearly three hours in length, you still get the feeling of emptiness as you're never watching one of the six story strands for long enough to feel real investment into any of them.
Still, it's a wonder they put together anything but a car crash. The versatility of stellar stars including Tom Hanks and Hugh Grant really is superb; seeing the latter portray a sadistic cannibal in the distant future is one particular unexpected highlight.
It's good, but I would struggle to think of anyone who could deal with the enormous scale of 'Cloud Atlas' and make it significantly better than that on the big screen.
