Review of Closer (2013) by Christopher S — 14 Jun 2012
A very good film which easily could have been adapted to the Broadway stage. The script by Patrick Marber was solid and the directing by Mike Nichols was excellent as it usually is. It was unreal hearing Julia Roberts be so explicit in describing her sexual experiences but she showed she is a very good actress once again.
This film for me was the first sign of Natalie Portman's genius. While most people finally gave her the credo in Black Swan, Portman's portrayal of Alice/Jane was nothing short of masterful. Clive Owen was perfect as the crude and aggressive Larry and Jude Law was good as well.
A film definitely worth seeing not just for fun but also to study acting methods.
