Review of Closer (2004) by Patrick M — 03 Jun 2013
"Closer" is a 2004 romantic drama directed by Mike Nichols (The Graduate, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?).
"Hello stranger".
Two lovers meet by a chance occurrence, after that one starts liking another person and by chance he accidentally sets her up on a date with another man, but he doesn't want them to be together, so he starts to have an affair with her and so on.
"Closer" looks romantic, it even starts with a scene depicting love at first sight, but its an anti-romance movie, its about affairs, not love. The performances are great, we get to understand and feel for every single character, specially Clive Owen's, but I wouldn't want to spoil anything about them. The script is pretty good, it deals with sex, secrets and guilt in a funny way.
By the way, is it me or does Natalie Portman look just like Jean Seberg in "Breathless" in this movie?
I'd recommend it to people who liked "Before Sunrise", "Match Point", "Little Children", or "Husbands and Wives".
