Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Matthew J — 01 Jan 2012
Just watched this film again today and I'm still blown away by the incredible power it has to draw you in and give you one of the best payoffs in film history. There is nothing about this film that disappoints the viewer as the acting is strong, the dialog is great, the plot is believable in how it is laid out. Spielberg had one of his very best creative moments while working on this project. Dreyfuss made me a fan for life after watching this and Jaws for the first time as a child.
The soundtrack to this film is almost as epic as the film itself, with the entire contact moment being musical is unlike anything done in film before it and never would be duplicated on this level again.
