Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Bradley W — 05 Jan 2012
Close Encounters of the Third Kind is one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made and one of the defining moments in Spielbergs career. It asks so many questions about extra terrestrial life and I just loved every single moment. At first I thought this was just some way for Spielberg to beat George Lucas because of Star Wars, and I could not have been more wrong. This is a incredible and remarkable film.
The plot of the film is a masterpiece. Every moment I was completely engaged in the story and as a dedicated sci-fi fan I had high expectations and they were all recieved. Some people cannot handle a story like this but I found it completely engaging and beautifully made. Such an incredible and beautiful movie that asks the question, are we alone?
The cast was better than I was expecting. Richard Dreyfuss must have some magic skill to be great in a Spielberg movie, because his performance completely blew me away. Melinda Dillon gives the most memorable role, we truly pity and feel emotion for her and I just fell in love with her performance. Everyone else was good I had no complaints.
The special effects made this just as beautiful as E.T. and possibly better than it as well. The last half hour of the film presents some of the most incredible and beautiful effects ever put to film, its just hard not to love Spielberg.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind is one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. In every way this is a genius film and proves Spielberg is one of the greatest directors ever, even in the leaugue with Kubrick and Hitchcock. If you do not like this film I pity you, because you are missing out on a truly incredible experience.
