Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Lindsay W — 01 Dec 2012
A masterpiece from the golden age of Spielberg. It's a slow but powerful build, with Richard Dreyfuss putting in an iconic performance. A dramatic exploration of people put under the stress, and the stigma, of claiming to see UFOs, punctuated by wonderfully dry humor. The special effects don't quite hold up, but they don't take away from the movie experience either. The John Williams score is a perfect pairing, and the UFO playing the Jaws theme was hilarious.
"I guess you've noticed something a little strange with Dad. It's okay, though. I'm still Dad.".
