Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Matt N — 26 May 2015
Spielberg's third film is a sci fi spectacular. It's intriguing, clever and a genuinely exciting film. However, the only thing that could be altered is the running time. "Close Encounters" does begin to drag after about an hour, and takes around 30-40mins to pick back up.
If the middle section was cut down in time, it wouldn't be one of the greatest sci fi films of all time, it would be the greatest. For 1977, the visual effects aren't too outdated in the 21st Century, the acting, while not awe inspiring, is still on point, and this is, despite its flaws, all in all an incredible sci fi adventure.
