Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Ittai S — 17 Dec 2010
Spielberg and John Williams create a visual spectacle that helped re-imagine science fiction and film. The effects, cinematography, and music are great and the story builds slowly but beautifully to a captivating climax and conclusion.
The biggest drawback is that it is long and feels like it. The story is a bit shallow and leaves the viewer wanting perhaps more than is given by the end. Beautiful filmmaking which captures the heart and eyes but lacking something deep for the mind.
