This film has always been on my radar. It's one of Spielberg's gems, although not one of his most talked about gems. Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a wonderful film about the wonder of what lies beyond our planet.

It also deals with the fixation about UFOs, but also fixation in itself. The cast is wonderful and although I really liked the kid, he still gives me the creeps somehow. And Dreyfuss is superb as Roy Neary.

The effects are amazing for the time. I mean the film was made in the late 1970s and the effects still hold up today. Sure they're not as awe-inspiring as some of today's effects, but they still have such a great quality about them.

Now while I talk about the effects, don't expect to see giant explosions, people getting vaporized, or anything from the typical alien invasion flick because this movie is the complete opposite. It's a contemplative film about extra-terrestrials and the curiosity they bring.

John Williams's score is phenomenal but what more would you expect from one of the greatest film composers of all-time? This is definitely up there on my list of favorite Spielberg films.
