Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Nick Y — 22 Sep 2010
Intriguing but somewhat slow-paced fantasy/drama with a well-cast Richard Dreyfuss and the terrific John Williams score. Has the tropes of an alien film, but carries them out in different ways. One of the best things about this film is that it's a mystery, but a positive alien encounter movie (obviously preceding alien movies like Superman, E.
T. and Starman) with a rather satisfying ending. The close encounter of the third kind is as much of an experience for the audience as it is for the character.
