Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Tyler S — 20 Jun 2012
Not nearly as good as I was hoping it to be. Spielberg's ability as a director shine here, but not as a writer. I found myself thinking, "Ok, this is neat. So what?" The awesome additions like great acting, great soundtrack, great special effects, great cinematography, etc.
were just fine, but it lacked a message or a plot. This is more or less a look into Steven's imagination, which is fine, but you gotta have substance with it. Plus aliens are set at the extreme for me.
I either like them like E.T. as he's hugging Eliot or they scare the crap out of me like E.T. when he's breathing heavily with his fingers on the shed. These aliens didn't make me feel good.
